This module provides an overview of the mechanical and durability testing methods used to evaluate ultra-high-performance concrete (UHPC). Participants will review ASTM standards applicable to the determination of compressive strength, flexural performance, modulus of elasticity, Poisson's ratio, creep, length change, and resistance to freezing and thawing. The module highlights the modifications and exceptions introduced for UHPC through ASTM C1856 and examines how UHPC behavior differs from conventional concrete. Participants will also learn how to interpret test results and assess the performance characteristics that contribute to the long-term durability and structural performance of UHPC.

  1. Explain the purpose, scope, and key requirements of ASTM test methods used to evaluate the mechanical and durability properties of UHPC.
  2. Identify the modifications and exceptions introduced in ASTM C1856 for testing UHPC specimens.
  3. Determine and interpret key mechanical properties of UHPC, including compressive strength, flexural performance, modulus of elasticity, and Poisson's ratio.
  4. Evaluate creep and length-change behavior in UHPC using appropriate ASTM test procedures and performance metrics.
  5. Compare the mechanical and durability performance of UHPC with that of conventional concrete, including differences in creep and freeze-thaw behavior.
  6. Assess the factors that contribute to the long-term durability and service-life performance of UHPC based on standardized laboratory test results.
