ACI CODE-323, Low-Carbon Concrete, was developed by an ANSI-approved consensus process and addresses cast-in-place concrete. This new Code provides provisions for concrete materials selection where reduced global warming potential (GWP) is required. The Code may be adopted as a stand-alone code or can be used in combination with a structure code or low-carbon material code adopted by the authority having jurisdiction. The Code is in a format that allows reference to a set of chapters based on the structure or use type and applies to a broad range of concrete materials. This presentation will provide an overview of the Code requirements, how the Code was developed, information on adoption of the code, and examples of how the code can be used in practice. An example case study of using the code will also be provided.
• Define low-carbon concrete, and methods of achieving low-carbon concrete.
• Explain where the new ACI Code for Low-Carbon Concrete applies; its limitations; and how it relates to other codes and standards from ACI, ASTM, and ICC.
• Interpret the code requirements as it relates to the design of low-carbon concrete materials.
• Understand how the code can be adopted within their jurisdiction.
