This course explores the evolving landscape of anchoring to concrete, emphasizing current challenges, emerging models, and future design opportunities. Through expert-led presentations, participants will gain insights into knowledge gaps in complex anchorage scenarios, new provisions in ACI 318 for bar group concrete breakout, and advanced models for anchors with reinforcement as featured in EN1992-4 and fib Design Guides. The course aims to equip structural engineers with the latest tools, methodologies, and research findings to improve anchorage safety, efficiency, and innovation.

The contents of this course include three recorded presentations from the ACI 2024 Fall Convention:

• Opportunities for Improvement in Anchoring to Concrete Design by Kenton McBride, Hilti Corp

• New ACI 318 Bar Group Concrete Breakout Provisions by Benjamin Worsfold, University of Minnesota

• New Model for Anchorages with Anchor Reinforcement in fib and EN1992-4 by Institute of Construction Materials, University of Stuttgart

1. Identify key knowledge gaps and challenges in current anchorage design practices and their impact on structural safety.
2. Understand recent updates and future directions in ACI 318 provisions for bar group concrete breakout and their application to non-standard anchor arrangements.
3. Analyze and apply new models for anchors with reinforcement as per EN1992-4 and fib, including tension, shear, and combined loading scenarios.
4. Evaluate how advanced numerical simulations and material innovations, such as high-strength reinforcement and alternative concretes, influence modern anchorage design strategies.

Study the materials included in this module. Then, complete and pass the corresponding 10-question quiz with a score of 80% or higher to receive a certificate for 0.1 CEU (1.0 PDH).
