Architectural concrete is used in many different forms in buildings and other structures. This presentation is a review of the definition and industry standards related to architectural concrete. We will discuss how the current ACI documents impact architectural concrete and how to best use these standards. We will also discuss some of the misnomers associated with architectural concrete. Dan and Tarek will present best practices to assist in both preparing design documents and the construction of architectural concrete. Case studies of architectural concrete projects will be reviewed.
1. Define architectural concrete.
2. Recall how ACI reports and specifications, including ACI 301-20, treat placement of architectural concrete with regards to concrete mixes, materials, placement methods, finishing techniques, and curing methods.
3. Discuss best practices in meeting owner and design engineer architectural concrete requirements with consistent acceptable quality, including discussion of mockups.
4. Describe recent case studies that demonstrated quality architectural concrete projects that met design architectural expectations of owners and design engineers.
