“Cementitious Materials for Concrete,” discusses commonly used cementitious materials for concrete and describes the base use of these materials. Part 1 covers the material in Chapter 1 – 4 of the E-3(25) Cementitious Materials for Concrete document. It is targeted at those in the concrete industry not involved in determining the specific mixture proportions of concrete or in measuring the properties of the concrete. Students, craftsmen, inspectors, and contractors may find this a valuable introduction to a complex topic. This document was developed by ACI Committee E701 and approved by the ACI Educational Activities Committee.
1. Discuss the history and evolution of cement and classify various cementitious materials.
2. Explain the effects of cement fineness on water demand and concrete strength properties.
3. Recognize the importance of controlling heat of hydration in concrete.
4. Identify the types of blended cements and the performance benefits of each for certain applications.
Study the materials included in this module. Then, complete and pass the corresponding 10-question quiz with a score of 80% or higher to receive a certificate for 0.1 CEU (1.0 PDH).
