Learning Objectives
Define ultra-high-performance concrete (UHPC) and describe its material composition, fundamental properties, and common applications in structural and infrastructure projects.
Differentiate UHPC from conventional concrete with respect to mixture proportioning, material behavior, specimen preparation, mixing, transportation, placement, consolidation, finishing, curing, and thermal treatment requirements.
Explain the purpose and application of ASTM C1856 and identify the modifications and exceptions it introduces to conventional ASTM test methods for evaluating UHPC.
Perform and interpret fresh-property testing of UHPC, including flow and setting-time evaluations, and recognize the factors that influence test results, variability, and accuracy.
