This module, based on Chapter 5 excerpted from ACI 302.1R-15, “Concrete Floor and Slab Construction,” addresses the design of concrete floors as it relates to constructability. Specific design requirements for concrete floor construction are found in other ACI documents. This document was developed by ACI Committee 302 and approved by the ACI Technical Activities Committee.
1. Understand the purpose of a vapor retarder/barrier and proper techniques for placement.
2. List the different types of joints and the function that each serves.
3. Identify different types of reinforcement and load transfer devices used in slabs.
4. Recognize the required design elements for suspended slabs that should be included in the contract documents.
Read and study the materials included in this module. Then, complete and pass the corresponding 10-question quiz with a score of 80% or higher to receive a certificate for 0.1 CEU (1.0 PDH).
