This recorded webinar from September 15, 2015 covers designing concrete mixtures, or more properly phrased – proportioning concrete mixtures, which seems like a straightforward process. ACI 211, “Standard Practice for Selecting Proportions for Normal, Heavyweight, and Mass Concrete” provides a series of equations and tables that leads the user through developing proportions for concrete mixtures. However, there is also a bit of an art to designing concrete mixtures. Particle shape and texture cannot be quantified but play a major role in concrete performance. This presentation will discuss the basics of proportioning concrete mixtures.
1. Describe the role each material plays in the concrete mixture.
2. Understand the material characteristics that affect the mixture proportioning process.
3. Explain the use of ACI 211 in proportioning a concrete mixture.
4. Examine the process of making basic adjustments to the initial mixture proportions.
