This is a recorded webinar from December 13, 2023.

This webinar is jointly sponsored by NEx: An ACI Center of Excellence for Nonmetallic Building Materials and the American Concrete Institute (ACI).

This webinar will start with an introduction to fire performance of reinforced concrete structures. The webinar will then give an overview of fire research conducted by the applicant and colleagues on both reinforced concrete members (columns, beams, and slabs) strengthened with fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) sheets and plates and GFRP reinforced concrete slabs. The effectiveness of insulation for prolonging the fire endurance of FRP strengthened members will be discussed. Additionally, research on glass FRP (GFRP) reinforced concrete slabs in fire will be discussed along with recent guidelines developed for the Commentary of the ACI CODE-440.11-22: Building Code Requirements for Structural Concrete Reinforced with Glass Fiber-Reinforced Polymer (GFRP) Bars—Code and Commentary. Proposed next steps to advance design procedures for GFRP reinforced concrete structures in fire will be discussed.
1. Describe the main requirements of design for fire resistance of reinforced concrete structures.
2. Identify the key factors influencing the fire performance of fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) strengthened concrete beams and columns.
3. Summarize the main parameters influencing the fire performance of FRP reinforced slabs and beams.
4. Describe the main design considerations for the fire performance of concrete structures with FRP.
