This module provides a comprehensive overview of how sustainability, resilience, and low-carbon requirements are embedded in today’s concrete design frameworks. It explores emerging codes and standards—including ACI 323, ACI 318 Appendix C, and various international, federal, state, and local policies—that drive reductions in embodied carbon while maintaining structural performance. Participants will learn how regulatory provisions, life-cycle assessment tools, and material innovations influence design decisions across the building sector. The module equips design professionals with the knowledge needed to apply compliant, environmentally responsible, and health-protective concrete solutions.

1. Understand key sustainability and low-carbon requirements in ACI 323 and ACI 318 Appendix C and how they support safe, durable concrete design.
2. Recognize how federal, state, local, and international policies influence embodied carbon reporting and material specifications.
3. Explain the role of WBLCA in reducing environmental impact and improving long-term building resilience and occupant well-being.
4. Apply sustainable concrete strategies—such as SCMs, optimized mixes, and GWP limits—to meet project performance and HSW goals.

Study the materials included in this module. Then, complete and pass the corresponding 12-question quiz with a score of 80% or higher to receive a certificate for 0.2 CEU (2.0 PDH).
