Course Overview
This session will review lessons learned from cement manufacturing, concrete producers, and concrete contractors and finishers. This session will discuss the field observations and growing pains being discovered. In addition to real-world observations, several scientific factors will be discussed. While not all answers are known, progress is being made and challenges tackled!
The contents of this course include 5 recorded presentations from the ACI 2024 Spring Convention:
• Production of PLC; Larry Rowland, Heidelberg Materials
• Mix Optimizations and Material Variations; Stephanie Hampton, Aicrete
• Experiences Producing Concrete using PLC; Mike Baldoni, IMI
• Placing PLC Concrete; Kyle Kammer
• Water in OPC and PLC at Early Ages and its Impact on Finishing; Jason Weiss, Oregon State University
Learning Objectives
1. Analyze the impact of physical and chemical variations in PLC cement on concrete performance and recommend appropriate preconstruction steps for implementation.
2. Compare the production methods of OPC and PLC, identifying key factors contributing to carbon emission reductions.
3. Evaluate case studies to identify best practices in trial batching, testing, and mitigating variability in fresh and hardened concrete properties using PLC.
4. Assess the early-age properties of concrete made with PLC, including water distribution and shrinkage, to provide recommendations for curing and finishing techniques.
Instructions
Study the materials included in this module. Then, complete and pass the corresponding 10-question quiz with a score of 80% or higher to receive a certificate for 0.15 CEU (1.5 PDH). Continuing Education Credit: 0.15 CEU (1.5 PDH)Approved AIA and ICCAccess Period: 30 days
