This module is based on web sessions from the ACI Spring 2011 Convention in Tampa, Florida. They discuss ACI 214.4R-10, “Guide for Obtaining Cores and Interpreting Compressive Strength Results.” These three presentations review the contents of ACI 214.4R-10, the reasons for low in-situ compressive strengths, and how to plan a coring program for an existing structure.
1. Understand the difference between consumer’s and producer’s risk regarding acceptance of materials.
2. Recognize the strength correction factors applied to core strength when determining equivalent in-place strength.
3. Identify reasons why it may be permissible to accept concrete with in-place core strength results less than the specified compressive strength.
4. Know how to determine the number of cores for a sampling plan set up in accordance with ASTM E122, “Standard Practice for Calculating Sample Size to Estimate, With Specified Precision, the Average for a Characteristic of a Lot or Process.”
View the recorded webinar. Complete the 10-question quiz for each module with a score of 80% or higher to receive a certificate for 0.1 CEU (1.0 PDH).
