This session will present uses of chemical admixtures in unique applications that will enable the use of marginal materials as well as additional supplementary cementitious materials to create concrete mixtures with improved sustainability.
1. Explain methods to reuse returned fresh concrete using admixtures that divert plastic concrete to usable discrete particles.
2. Describe the changes in admixture technology in the last 20 years and how they allow the concrete producer to develop mixtures continuously monitoring properties of concrete, such as target slump, through the delivery of concrete to construction sites.
3. Recall how waterproofing admixtures with self-healing properties can reduce water penetration and help reduce ASR damage and other damage to concrete.
4. Explain how chemical admixtures are used to allow the use of Supplementary Cementitious materials while still meeting the project specifications and schedule requirements.
The contents of this course include 3 recorded presentations from the ACI 2023 Spring Convention:
1. Returned Concrete: From Headache to Resource, Mark Niemuth, Cemex
2. Combining Internet-of-Things and Chemistry: Admixture-on-Demand; Nathan Tregger, GCP Applied Technologies
3. A Novel Approach to Mitigate ASR; Alireza Biparva, Kryton International
Study the materials included in this module. Then, complete and pass the corresponding 10-question quiz with a score of 80% or higher to receive a certificate for 0.1 CEU (1.0 PDH).
