This session will present uses of chemical admixtures in unique applications that will enable the use of marginal materials as well as additional supplementary cementitious materials to create concrete mixtures with improved sustainability.
1. Recall new admixtures that allow production of concrete with reduced powder contents while maintaining strength and workability.
2. Describe how existing admixture technology can be used in a different way to enhance to sustainability of a concrete mixture.
3. Explain how different admixtures can improve the consistency and reduce the variability of concrete performance compared to ordinary Portland cement concrete.
4. Describe how combining admixtures can further reduce the carbon dioxide emissions of concrete mixtures.
The contents of this course include 4 recorded presentations from the ACI 2023 Spring Convention:
1. The Role of Admixtures in Improving the Sustainability of Concrete Infrastructure in Australia; James Aldred, Concrete Future Pty Ltd.
2. CO2 as a Performance Enhancing Admixture in Ready Mixed Concrete; Sean Monkman, CarbonCure Technologies
3. Reduce, Reuse, Recycle with Chemical Admixtures; Tony Thompson, CHRYSO Inc.
4. Concrete Strength Reimagined: C-S-H Nano Seeds as Key to Achieving Carbon Reduction Goals and Reimagining What's Possible with Concrete; Paul Horst Seiler, Master Builders Solutions
Study the materials included in this module. Then, complete and pass the corresponding 10-question quiz with a score of 80% or higher to receive a certificate for 0.1 CEU (1.0 PDH).
