This webinar is jointly sponsored by NEx: An ACI Center of Excellence for Nonmetallic Building Materials and the American Concrete Institute (ACI).

Polymer concrete was introduced commercially five decades ago and has become an important construction material with numerous benefits over traditional Portland cement concrete. This webinar covers the basics of polymer concrete and acts as a practical guide for engineers and contractors. It will review the main types of polymer concrete, the commonly used polymers, essential mechanical and durability properties, and fundamental design considerations. Additionally, the presentation will include selected case studies showcasing polymer concrete in buildings, bridges, and other civil infrastructure projects.

  1. Compare the primary polymers used in polymer concrete, including their performance benefits, limitations, and typical use cases.
  2. Evaluate the key mechanical properties and durability performance of polymer concrete under service and exposure conditions.
  3. Apply core design principles for polymer concrete and distinguish them from those used in Portland cement concrete systems.
  4. Differentiate polymer concrete types and select appropriate applications for buildings, bridges, and civil infrastructure projects.

Study the materials included in this module. Then, complete and pass the corresponding 10-question quiz with a score of 80% or higher to receive a certificate for 0.1 CEU (1.0 PDH).
