Course Description
Fiber-Reinforced Polymers (FRP) Reinforcements have become one of the most used construction materials during the last decade. ACI-440 Committee is leading the writing of design standards and guidelines and is sponsoring these full-sessions. Four 2-hours sessions will highlight and collect the most recent research, development, and application of FRP-Reinforcements in the concrete industry. Numerous important topics related to external and internal FRP-reinforcements will be presented, including in this Part 1: bond strength, mechanical splices, and development length properties of FRP reinforcing bars, and strengthening methods, anchoring methods, and non-destructive testing methods that apply to FRP wrap material.
The contents of this course include six recorded presentations from the ACI 2021 Spring Convention:
• Bond-Study of Corrosion-Reinforcement Embedded in Eco Friendly Concrete; John Myers, Missouri S&T
• Mechanical Splices for GRFP Reinforcing Bars; Nafiseh Kiani, University of Miami
• Development Length of GFRP Rebars in Reinforced Concrete Members Under Flexure; Alvaro Ruiz Emparanza, University of Miami
• Literature-Review on External Carbon Fiber-Reinforced Polymers (CFRP) Reinforcements for Concrete Bridges; Mohamed Ahmed, Universite de Sherbrooke
• Full-Scale of CFRP Anchors to Determine Design Properties; Scott Arnold, Fyfe Co. LLC
• Non-Destructive Evaluation of Reinforced Concrete Slabs Rehabilitated with CFRP/GRFP; Wael Zatar, Marshall University
Learning Objectives
1. Discuss the bond properties of GFRP bars embedded conventional Portland cement concrete and concrete with various levels of fly ash replacement.
2. Explain results of recent research concerning FRP reinforcing bar mechanical splice and development length properties and discuss any comparisons made between FRP bar and deformed steel bar splice and development length properties.
3. Discuss how FRP reinforcing material was used to strengthen deteriorated concrete bridge girders.
4. Describe anchoring techniques of FRP strengthening material (in the form of FRP wrap material) to existing concrete elements that are applied in lab tests.
Instructions
Study the materials included in this module. Then, complete and pass the corresponding 10-question quiz with a score of 80% or higher to receive a certificate for 0.15 CEU (1.5 PDH). Continuing Education Credit: 0.15 CEU (1.5 PDH)Approved AIA and ICCAccess Period: 30 days
