Course Overview
This course will provide progressive learning for shoring/reshoring designers, contractors, and base building engineers in several key areas of shoring and reshoring design and early-age building performance of multi-story concrete structures. This course will illustrate relationships with the base building deflection design assumptions, early-age concrete, speed of construction, and construction tolerances in constructing multi-story concrete buildings. This course will detail an overview to the updated ACI 347.2R, “Guide to Shoring/Reshoring of Concrete Multistory Buildings,” exemplifying best practices to reshoring design by better understanding early-age concrete behaviors, limitations of existing code and standards, and early-age loading effects on deflections.
The contents of this course include six recorded presentations from the ACI 2017 Fall Convention:
• Introduction to ACI 347.2R-17, Guide to Shoring/Reshoring of Concrete Multistory Buildings by Robert G. McCracken, EFCO Corporation
• Shoring/Reshoring Operations—Economy and Safety by Pericles C. Stivaros, GEI Consultants, Inc.
• Post-Tensioning Effects on Reshore Design by Mary Bordner-Tanck, RH Bordner Engineering Company
• Early-Age Concrete Properties and their Effect on Shoring/Reshoring by Adi Abu-Obeidah and Hani H. Nassif, Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey
• Surveyed Performance of RC and PT Flat Slabs in Multi-Story Buildings: Implications for Design by David Shook, Skidmore, Owings & Merrill LLP; and Mark P. Sarkisian, Skidmore, Owings & Merrill LLP
• Deflection Modeling, Monitoring, and Investigation by Eamonn F. Connolly, James McHugh Construction Company; Michael E. Ahern, Pivot Engineers, and Aaron K. Larosche, Pivot Engineers
Learning Objectives
1. Discuss the recent revisions to the ACI 347.2R-17, "Guide for Shoring/Reshoring of Concrete Multistory Buildings".
2. Describe common complex reshoring applications.
3. Explain early-age concrete properties as they relate to reshoring and slab deflection applications.
4. Describe best practices relating to deflection modeling, monitoring, and investigation.
