Substitution of traditional steel rebars by their FRP alternative is well known and documented in construction industry. By extension, many applications in ground engineering benefit of similar substitution of the rock-anchor, soil-nail, rock-bolt by composite alternatives. For many years, such alternatives were limited to temporary applications, where steel would have created obstructions. Thanks to the many studies on long-term behavior of FRP reinforcement for concrete structures, composite materials are more and more used in permanent application in the field of geotechnical engineering, especially when it comes to tunnels and slope stabilizations. This presentation will review the evolution of the systems available and their applications.
