Course Overview
The course will clarify some common ACI 301 concrete specification confusion regarding: (1) performance specifications and prescription specifications; (2) strength and water cementitious ratio; (3) minimum cement content, (4) slump and quality of concrete; (5) temperature limits and thermal control plan; (6) durability requirements for different environments; (7) concrete cracking control; (8) curing conditions; and (9) owner acceptance criteria.
The course also clarifies the use of referral language such as “unless otherwise noted” and “as indicated in contract documents”. The course also teaches how well-written specifications can be used to resolve potential issues concerning owner acceptance and potential non-compliance claims.
The contents of this course include three recorded presentations from the ACI 2015 Spring Convention:
1. Unless Otherwise Specified by Nicholas J. Carino, Consultant, Chagrin Falls, OH
2. What Did I Just Promise You? by Michelle L. Wilson, Director, Education, Portland Cement Association, Skokie, IL
3. Helpful Specifications by W. Calvin McCall, Partner, Concrete Engineering Consultants, Inc., Charlotte, NC
