This webinar is jointly sponsored by NEx: An ACI Center of Excellence for Nonmetallic Building Materials and the American Concrete Institute (ACI).

3D printing is transforming construction by enabling more efficient, precise, and customizable fabrication of structural elements. Polymer concrete (PC), with its adaptable fresh-state behavior and strong mechanical performance, offers a promising pathway for advancing this technology. This webinar presents a practical, step-by-step framework for designing and implementing 3D-printed PC structures, from mixture design to full-scale applications. The session will cover how to tailor PC mixtures for dimensional stability and 3D-printability, and how to evaluate performance using deformation-based metrics. It will also explore early-age behavior to ensure stable layer-by-layer construction. The webinar will further discuss the evaluation of polymer concrete as a non-metallic sustainable building material, integrating life-cycle assessment and life-cycle cost analysis to assess its environmental and economic performance relative to conventional systems. By the end of the session, participants will gain a clear understanding of how to develop and implement high-performance, sustainable 3D-printed polymer concrete for modern construction applications.

  1. Understand the fundamentals of 3D-printed polymer concrete, including material behavior, mixture components, and their influence on printability and performance.
  2. Apply a step-by-step framework for designing and implementing 3D-printed PC systems, from mixture development to stable layer-by-layer construction.
  3. Evaluate key fresh-state and early-age properties of polymer concrete, including flow, rheological properties, and deformation-based metrics such as printability window, vertical strain, buildability, and viscoelastic response.
  4. Assess polymer concrete as a non-metallic sustainable building material by integrating life cycle assessment (LCA) and life cycle cost analysis (LCCA) for construction applications.
